Burke Road Vet Clinic COVID-19 Update (March 17, 2020)
Dear Burke Road Veterinary Clinic Pet Parents,
We understand the concern about Coronavirus (COVID-19), and we offer our sympathy for all those who have been affected. We would like to make you aware of the necessary steps we are taking to protect our clients, and staff. At Burke Road Veterinary Clinic, we believe it is our role and responsibility during this time to prioritise the health and well-being of our clients, staff and patients.
We ask all pet owners, as well as employees, to follow the COVID-19 Guidelines set by the Department of Health. Specifically:
Please use the hand sanitiser upon entry.
Please use the hand sanitiser after using our bathroom, coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose.
Please practice social distancing in reception and in the consultation rooms.
When ever possible, please limit the number of family members coming to
the clinic at each trip. If multiple people want to be be at a consultation, we are very happy to utilise mobile phones or another preferred mode of electronic communication to ensure everyone is included.
Pet owners who have symptoms of respiratory illness (cough, sneezing, shortness of breath, fever) are asked to stay home and call ahead and we will discuss suitable options so that your pet's veterinary care is not neglected.
If you are experiencing any symptoms, including a sore throat, runny nose, elevated temperature, and/or cough etc, and your pet has a scheduled appointment, please call us to discuss your appointment. Any cancellation fees will be waived.
Animals and COVID-19: Currently, there is no evidence that companion animals can be a source of, or spread COVID-19. However, it appears that COVID-19 can survive on many surfaces for several days, so we recommend you treat your pet like a surface and wash your hands before and after petting an animal.
For our higher risk clients who need to take extra precautions through this time, if your pet needs veterinary care, we can collect your pet from your car while you wait. We can call you during the examination so that you can stay safe in your car to discuss your pet's health. Please let us know in advance so that we can take every precaution to keep you safe.
We have changed our hours and divided the team into two groups. This will allow us to stay open if one group becomes unwell . For your and our protection, employees with any cold/flu symptoms will stay home until a negative COVID-19 test is returned. For this reason, we ask that you are patient during this time if we become short-staffed.
We appreciate your understanding while we navigate this challenging and ever-changing situation. Our main priority is the health and well-being of our patients, clients, and employees. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
We are privileged to work with you and your pets and look forward to seeing you soon.
Yours in health,
The team at Burke Road Veterinary Clinic
