Dog spey home care

Your dog has been speyed today. She was given a general anaesthetic and had surgery that involved the removal of both of the ovaries and the uterus. After surgery there will be no more heat periods and your dog cannot have puppies.

After an anaesthetic

  • After a general anaesthetic your pet may be sleepy for 24 hours, keep her somewhere warm and quiet.
  • Feed her only a small meal tonight, about one half her normal meal.

Strict rest for 5 days is very important

  • Please don't take her for any walks for 5 days then just short walks on the lead until we see her again in 10 days time.
  • The wound needs to be kept clean so no swimming or baths until the sutures are out.
  • Your dog has sutures in that are due to be removed in 10 days time.

Please contact us if:

  1. She is still sleepy after 2 days.
  2. If there is any discharge or excessive swelling at the site of the surgery.
  3. She removes the sutures or is constantly worrying them.
  4. She refuses to eat or drink after tonight.
