Dog castration home care

Your dog has been castrated today. He was given a general anaesthetic and had surgery that involved the removal of both of the testicles.

Your dog after an anaesthetic

  • After a general anaesthetic your pet may be sleepy for 24 hours or so.
  • Feed your dog only a small amount of food tonight, about one half his normal meal.
  • Restrict your dog to lead only exercise for the first 5 days after the surgery.
  • The wound needs to be kept clean and dry so no swimming or baths until the sutures are out.
  • Your dog has sutures in place that need to be removed in ten days.

Please contact us if:

  1. He is still sleepy after 2 days.
  2. There is any discharge or excessive swelling at the site of the surgery.
  3. He removes the sutures or is constantly licking at them.
  4. He refuses to eat or drink after tonight.

Remember we are here to help you with your dog so if you have any problems or questions, great or small please call and speak to one of the team.
