Care of your pet after dental work

  1. Your pet has had a general anaesthetic today so they will be a bit sleepy for 24-48 hours.
  2. A small amount of minor bleeding from the mouth is normal but if this persists or seems excessive please call us.
  3. Your pets teeth have all been individually examined then cleaned with an ultrasonic scaler then polished using a Fluoride paste.
  4. Your pet may have had some teeth that needed to be extracted due to periodontal disease (severe inflammation of the gums and tooth root).

Feeding your pet after dental work

Your pet might appreciate nice soft food that doesn't require much chewing such as canned food for a few days.

The best way to prevent tooth and gum disease recurring is by giving your pet plenty of natural chewing activity.

  • This is best achieved with lots of RAW bones marrow bones are good for dogs and chicken bones are good for cats. We recommend at least 3-4 times a week.
  • If your pet is not a great bone chewer there is a special dry food called Hills t/d that helps clean the teeth as well as being a good balanced diet.
  • Home brushing and special mouth pastes can also be used to keep the gums healthy.
